Facebook's "Internet.org" to debut in Nigeria May

The Facebook-run service is already functional in many countries of the world and also on the African continent
Faceook’s Internet.org, a project that tries to provide underprivileged people and communities with Internet connectivity, will be in Nigeria for the first time in May.
Internet.org, which is available on ground in GhanaZambia,Kenya and Tanzania, is ready to commence operations in Nigeria, according to Facebook’s Head of Public Policy inAfricaEbele Okobi.
Okobi made this known on wednesday during a panel session at the Mobile West Africa 2015 event currently ongoing in Lagos.
Internet.org was launched in 2013 and strives to provide users with zero Internet access in developing countries with select web content.
The service is currently spearheading an intense net neutrality debate in India where local interests are saying Internet.org is just a Facebook proxy aimed at India’s poor.
Such discussions as to the services true intentions are currently absent in Nigeria and other African countries, but it’s possible that thoughts could begin to arise when the service finally commences operations in the country.
