Community Protests Poor Electricity Supply in Area of Lagos state

Residents of the Igando-Egan area of Alimosho local government area of Lagos state have protested against the company that is responsible for the supply of electricity to the community, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).

In showing their anger, community leaders and representatives of small businesses in Igando-Egan on Wednesday, June 24, took to the streets to protest what they described as poor electricity supply, crazy bills being circulated every month and the removal of their transformer by the company recently.

The protesters displayed placards with inscriptions such as, “We Say No To darkness”, “#IKEDC No To Crazy Bills”, “Over 600 Houses on One transformer”, Over 60 Streets On One Transformer”, “#Bring back Our Transformer”, “#No To Load Shedding”, “IKEDC Stop This Victimisation, “We Need Change”.

The placards indicate the state of electricity in the area. An official of the IKEDC later listened to the grievances of their electricity consumers and assured them the company would attend to their demands.
