Until a former governor is arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, people would continue to perceive the anti-graft agency as corrupt and hunting dog for political opponents. This was the position of the Kogi Youth Progressives as it urged the EFCC to probe the nine-year administration of former Kogi state governor Ibrahim Idris.
According to the group, the commission should probe ex-governor Idris in order to prove to Nigerians and Kogi people in general, its fairness in the fight against corruption, Leadership reports.Speaking to newsmen, the president of the group, John Ali, stated that despite its actions against the immediate past governors, the commission had failed to discharge its responsibilities honestly.
Ali wondered why ex-governor Idris had been left off the hook despite allegations of corruption that trailed its administration running into several billions of naira.
He said: “Rumour in the state has it that Ibrahim Idris boasted that he has settled EFCC officials in order not to be arrested and prosecuted.”
According to Ali, the former governor embezzled taxpayers’ money and diverted funds meant for development in the state running into several billions during his nine years rule.
