Manchester United are close to securing the signature of Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to the BBC. Schweinsteiger has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks but it is now believed the German captain has told his current club that he will not renew his contract when it expires in 2016.
The 30-yea-old World Cup winner has become synonymous with German football, making 536 appearances for the Bundesliga champions since his debut in 2002 with an incredible eight league titles to his name.
Although a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, BBC Sport are reporting that Schweinsteiger a significant pay rise to bring him to the club.
